I think I have decided to skip the Virgin Festival. In theory it sounds pretty awesome, but in practice it will probably either be too hot or too cold, raining, crowded, difficult to navigate, and hard to actually see any of the bands. Maybe I am just too old for rock festivals. Also, the main reason that I am going is to see the Strokes, who I have already seen twice in nice small venues.
I am a big fan of the new Outkast song "Morris Brown" even though it/all of Idlewild seems to be getting crappy reviews. Maybe it's just because I love marching bands...who knows? I also just saw the new(?) Lloyd Banks f. 50 Cent video for "Hands Up" which is so bad that it's good (not unlike 50 Cent's Candy Shop which turned into my favourite song of the moment a year or so ago).
I just downloaded some good but old stuff, so I may have a new favourite band soon.

Friday Afternoon Stuck at Work...
...and too braindead to actually do or write anything after a night of Jager and strip poker, but here are some interesting/fun (to me) things:
This photo was called "Pete Doherty Punch Nurse" by whoever originally posted it, which I think says it all.
I am seriously considering day 2 of the Virgin Festival on Toronto Island. I can't resist the Strokes. Here's a pic from the Toronto show earlier this summer:
Malajube is opening for Islands at the Opera House - yay!
Did I mention Jager and strip poker? Yarg.

Kate Moss & Dirty Pretty Things
How much do I love the September 2006 Kate Moss Vanity Fair cover? Now I need a white fur hat.
In other not-really-related news, Dirty Pretty Things were on Letterman last night and were very good. Of course it doesn't look like they will be playing in Toronto anytime soon. I did just get tickets for Islands at the Opera House at the end of September.

White Squirrel & Lord of the Rings
At the risk of turning into my parents entirely, I am going to post a couple of pictures of the white squirrel in their backyard. I will say no more on that subject...
I went to see the Lord of the Rings musical on Thursday. It was pretty good - about a 6/10. Like the movies, the second and third acts were way better than the first act. The staging and sets were amazing, and the Gollem character was really cool. Unfortunately, parts of it were boring and dragged on, and sometimes the lighting was a bit dark and shadowy and it was hard to tell apart certain characters. The show was over three hours long.
The rest of my weekend was ok. The usual wine-drinking antics on Friday night, a quiet Saturday, and then a visit to my brother's farm on Sunday. Yes, my brother has a farm...

Fire On Queen Street West
There was a fire on Queen Street West yesterday, about a block away from my apartment. Smoke was billowing out of the second and third floor windows above Kallinikos Furs at around 6 o'clock. Fire trucks arrived a few minutes later, they broke through the glass door and also used ladders to get up on the roof of the building.
The fire seemed to be out by about 6:20 but there was still a ton of smoke. Then the firemen had to use a chainsaw to saw into every attic of the buildings west of the fire.
And by about 6:45 most of the drama was over. There were still firetrucks, ambulances, and police there until much later, but nothing much else to see.
In other news, I am going to see the Lord of the Rings musical tonight so I will write a little review of that soon.

Pingu Dance featuring David Hasselhoff
About a year ago I used to watch Pingu every morning after Spongebob Squarepants. Pingu, if you aren't familiar with it, is a 5 minute long Swiss claymation cartoon about penguins.
I got really into it at the time and wanted an mp3 of the Pingu theme song ("ping ping ping ping, ping ping ping ping, pingu! pingu!"). One boring and probably hungover afternoon I ended up trolling around the net looking for the Pingu theme mp3 and discovered this: the Pingu Dance by David Hasselhoff You can download it at that link and it's totally worth it! This is David Hasselhoff rapping over the Pingu theme song. It's wicked!!
